It's that time of year again - for the second Pedal Prix race of the season. This year they decided to extend the July race from 6 hours to 9 hours, which meant that the last hour and a half was in darkness.

This year's race was packed with drama!
The slow bikes didn't always keep to the left and one of them cut in front of Andrew. This caused his bike to roll into a barrier...then his leg cramped and he only got to ride 5 laps in that stint. Luckily though he didn't get any injuries. During his last stint in the bike he did a very impressive 26 laps....with the last few in pouring rain! Justin was on the track at the same time and the sibling rivalry came out....with Andrew lapping Justin 3 times!

Matthew had to play a game of soccer before his ride and injured his ankle when he got kicked. He was still able to ride and ended up doing the most consecutive laps on his bike. His last laps were also in the rain.

Justin had a great day and did 18 laps during one of his turns. Near the end of the day he got out just before the rain came. The next rider rolled the bike, and before the marshals could stand him back up, another bike smashed into him. The rider got out OK and with lots of duct tape and half an hour out of the race, it got back on the track again.
Here's Justin's bike being taken back to the pits to get fixed.

The biggest drama was when an adult rider on another team passed out after having a suspected heart attack. The whole thing unfolded in the middle of the track while everyone watched! The race was stopped for an hour. At first everyone thought the rider had actually died at the track. We found out after the race that he was seriously ill in hospital.
After the rain, and before it got dark, I got this fabulous rainbow photo.
